History of HGPi
In September 2004, the men of Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity, Incorporated thought it was about time to have a sister organization of their same status. Eta Gamma Pi Sorority, Inc. is the third set of sisters of the fraternity. The first two set of sisters were lost through the struggle of Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity, Incorporated over the years.
Nu Gamma Psi based the sister organization on Godly Principles and christian beliefs. Remembering that the persons that started and founded Nu Gamma Psi from birth have christian backgrounds but do not put any other religion or belief down. Julian Hoggard and D.(156).H. came up with the letters and their significant meanings along with the colors and their meanings, which are the foundation of the sorority. The colors of the two organizations represent the bond between the brothers and sisters, which is called "Heaven on Earth". You cannot have one without the other for a complete earth. This bond is a true bond displayed not only through our colors but through our actual relationship with our brothers.
Julian Hoggard(Nu Gamma Psi) and D.(156)H. were put in charge of initiating the females interested in the alpha chapter of the sorority at Elizabeth City State University. Three women, that shall remain anonymous, were intiated into the sisterhood on September 23, 2004. Soon after these women were initiated another group of women were brought into the sisterhood on October 26, 2004. These six women are known as "Secret Garden" and are the co-founders of this organization.
Eta Gamma Pi Sorority, Incorporated has worked very hard to get where we are now. Within our first three and a half years we have been established at one university, recognized on another HBCU campus, and have also become incorporated. We strive to perfect our five cardinal principles which are love, unity, sisterhood, leadership, and gracefulness in our sisterhood and daily lives.
